RECORDER PLAYING ASSESSMENT RUBRIC
In order to earn a recorder karate “belt”, students must earn a grade of A or B on their playing assessment. Students may attempt to play the song as often as necessary to earn a belt, but may only play (belt test) once in a class period. Additional time for students to play for belts is offered in the morning before the final bell and at the end of the day before dismissal.

- A Plays with good tone and 0-2 mistakes in pitch, fingerings and rhythm
- B Plays with good tone and 3-4 mistakes in pitch, fingerings and rhythm
- C Plays with good tone and 5-6 mistakes in pitch, fingerings and rhythm
- D Plays with fair tone and 7-8 mistakes in pitch, fingerings and rhythm
- E Plays with poor tone and 9 + mistakes in pitch, fingerings and rhythm
